FIRST CONNECTION

Getting started.

Your first session, explained in plain English with just enough terminal swagger.

01 / Create a COM1 identity

Open the app and select registration. Choose a user ID and password. COM1 does not require your real email address or phone number at registration. Keep your credentials somewhere safe: the current user-ID-only account model does not provide ordinary email password resets.

02 / Find someone

COM1 does not broadcast a public directory of everyone. Search for another person's known handle to establish a connection. Direct conversations and group chats are available from the app.

03 / Send your first packet

Type into the composer and send. Messages appear as TX (outgoing) and RX (incoming) packets in terminal modes. Incoming messages may use a typewriter effect and sounds depending on settings.

Hey! Testing COM1. RX me if you see this.

If your device goes offline, text transmission can queue locally and retry. Attachments require a live connection to transfer bytes.

04 / Try a command

/help
/theme mesh
/ui full

/help prints the main command list. /theme mesh enables black-and-green Mesh Green. /ui full enables the local quick-action composer. Try /theme normal to follow your system light/dark setting again.

05 / Understand backups

Free accounts generally keep delivered chat history in a device-local encrypted cache rather than a permanent cloud message backup. Uninstalling or clearing app data can permanently erase that locally kept history. Entitled SYSOP accounts may have cloud backup where enabled; multi-device sync behavior is not equivalent across tiers.

06 / Next steps

Explore the command reference, configure your AI provider or open the HTTP console with /http. If you want optional content encryption, understand Secure Link before turning it on.
