Links shared in a normal text packet are tappable. When a public HTTPS page publishes standard preview metadata, COM1 can show a thumbnail, page title, summary and domain.
What works
https://,http://andwww.addresses in ordinary chat text are clickable.- A compact preview card can show the Open Graph image and description, or a link-only fallback.
- Works in direct chats and groups; syntax-highlighted code blocks are left alone.
- Previews cache temporarily to reduce repeated network requests.
Privacy behavior
Preview metadata is fetched by the viewing device. Opening/loading a preview can expose the viewer's IP address and request metadata to the destination website, even when the enclosing COM1 message uses Secure Link. COM1 avoids automatic preview fetches for local/private network URLs and disappearing messages.
When a thumbnail does not appear
Some sites don't publish og:image, block automated requests, or disallow browser cross-origin requests. COM1 still keeps the address clickable where the platform permits. Avoid assuming a thumbnail proves the URL is safe.
